This project reconsiders the conventional pool placement in response to a sewer pipe running across the rear of the site. The pool is partially embedded within the architectural mass, enhancing the relationship between built form and landscape. Positioned near the living area, it offers increased privacy, passive cooling during warmer months, and serves as a key visual focal point. Accessible from both the family room and the rear fire pit, the pool links indoor and outdoor living through a fluid, integrated layout.
The floor slab follows the site’s natural topography. At the rear, a lowered slab creates a sunken living zone with a ceiling height of 3.5 metres, enriching spatial volume and thermal comfort. Expansive glazing brings abundant natural light into the living area while reinforcing visual connections with the outdoors. The transitional steps feature a balustrade that seamlessly merges into the main stair and adjoining sideboard, softening the visual impact and forming a refined, continuous architectural element.
On the upper floor, four bedrooms are distributed to each corner of the house, maximising acoustic separation and privacy. At the centre, a rumpus area with a compact bar station provides a communal hub for relaxation and family interaction. A double-height void above the entry further enhances the spatial experience, drawing natural light through the core and improving visual permeability between the front and rear, as well as upstairs and down.
